The Perfect Getaway: Atrani Town

Situated on Italy’s most scenic stretch of coastline in a landscape of towering cliffs, pastel-hued villages terraced into hillsides, precipitous corniche roads, luxuriant gardens, and expansive vistas over turquoise waters and green-swathed mountains, Atrani town is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive and charming locations on the Amalfi Coast.Positioned just 700 meters away from the famous Amalfi, Atrani is the smallest municipality in the whole Southern Italy. A picturesque fishing village, isolated from the traffic, is definitely an amazing destination for an Italy vacation.

Like all the other towns of the Amalfi Coast, was the residence of noble Roman patricians, evidenced by the sumptuous villas that archaeological excavations are constantly bringing to light. It was mentioned for the first time in a letter of Pope Gregory the Great, in 596.

Today Atrani maintains it’s distinct fishermen’s town atmosphere. Still tucked away from urban traffic and noise, the center of Atrani is cuddled in among its ancient houses, which boast beautiful balconies full of flowers. The main entrance to the town starts from the beach, and from there, the traditional houses climb up the steep mountain valley, intertwined with gardens, and vibrant lemon terraces.

Atrani is away from traffic, and confusion, because it only opens to its beach and the sea. This is probably the secret of its pleasant square, recently preferred by some connoisseurs’ to the famous square of Capri. Definitely, the Atrani town is the ideal destination for a great Italy trip and you have the opportunity to experience it through our great Amalfi Coast tours.
